I etched a few wine glasses as part of a Bridal shower gift for my best friend’s wedding. It’s much easier than it sounds!

You will need:

-Etching paste

-Cheap paint brushes

-Glass piece to etch

-Stickers in the font or shape you like (try to use stickers that have a shiny coating to them so they resist the etching paste a little better)

-Scissors

mkl michelleklare michelle liebmann glass etching diyCut around the sticker you are going to use for your shape, be sure to leave enough of a border so it’s easy to apply the sticker to the glass without warping the font.

mkl michelleklare michelle liebmann glass etching diyMake sure your glass surface is clean and dry. Peel off the border around the sticker and place it carefully onto the glass. Make sure all edges are smooth so the etching paste doesn’t get under the sticker.

mkl michelleklare michelle liebmann glass etching diyUsing your paint brush, apply a very thick coat of etching paste to the area you want etched. Be careful not to get any etching paste outside of your desired etching area. If you do, use a Q-Tip to wipe it off with a little soap and water.

mkl michelleklare michelle liebmann glass etching diyLet etching cream sit undisturbed for 10 minutes (the directions say 5-10 minutes, but I found leaving it on closer to 15 minutes or so was more effective). You can always use a Q-Tip to wipe off a corner of your etching to see how deep it has etched. If it isn’t as deep as you’d like, just apply a little more and wait a little longer.

mkl michelleklare michelle liebmann glass etching diyUsing a sponge or paper towel and some soap and water, wipe the etching paste off of your glass quickly to avoid etching any unwanted areas. Remove your sticker stencil and wash totally clean.
